What is Sports Therapy
Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury, and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability. It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences, incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and where applicable, work.
Martial arts/Fitness Training and Risk of Injury
Martial arts can result in a wide variety of injuries. The injury can be dependent on the particular martial art being performed. Many styles of martial arts are surprisingly non-contact and these can often result in repetitive strain injuries. Contact martial arts can vary hugely in their techniques, rules, and the protective equipment they use and these contributing factors affect the type of injuries sustained. Flexibility and muscle control is the key component to practicing martial arts at the highest level. Any weakness or tightness in your muscles can predispose you to an Injury during your martial arts practice.
